What are the causes of snoring?
Snoring has for a long time been accepted as a problem that cannot be cured or helped. Statistics on snoring are often contradictory, but at least 30% of adults and perhaps as many as 50% of people in some demographics snore.
When we sleep, our respiratory structures (the soft sides of our airways) relax, resulting in an obstruction to the air flow which causes the sound we are all familiar with. Snoring is also associated with excess body weight, alcohol consumption and other sedatives or sleeping on your back, which can all increase the severity of the problem.
What can be done to help?
The Silensor Anti Snoring System (www.silensor.co.uk) is a special mould that fits over the teeth and gently pulls the lower jaw forward, which in turns helps keep the airways open. This not only considerably lessens the noise, but also leads to a much better night’s sleep.
If you suffer from this problem, please do not hesitate to give us a call to book an appointment with Dr Kirit Johal, who supplies the Silensor appliance.
